One Person’s Odds and Ends Is Another’s Scarecrow

Build a scarecrow for our annual Festival of Roses. This year’s theme is Odds & Ends — reuse, recycle and repurpose found items to bring your scarecrow to life.

Primary School, High School, Best School Display and Open entrants build a full scarecrow from recycled, repurposed and found materials. 

Entry is free and open to all ages, with prizes awarded for the most creative entry in each category.

Entry deadline:5pm Friday 13 November 2026
Entries must arrive onsite by: 1pm Saturday 21 November 2026
Judging: During the Festival of Roses – Sunday 22 November 2026

    • First place – $15

Best Class Display – Winner receives a class excursion to Woolmers Estate

The Rules
  • Entry to the competition is free.

  • All scarecrows must be constructed by the entrant.

  • Scarecrows must be: 
    Max height: 2 metres (Height – from bottom of support pole to top of scarecrow)
    Min height: 1 metre
    Max Width: 2 metres
    Min Width: 1 metre
  • Pre-school entrants decorate/colour the scarecrow design provided.

  • Scarecrows must be built from recycled, repurposed and found items only. Wooden support can be purchased new if required

  • Prizes awarded for the most creative entry in each category.

  • One entry per person.

  • Entry forms due 5pm Friday 13 November 2026.

  • Entries must arrive onsite by 1pm Saturday 21 November 2026.

  • Judging takes place during the Festival of Roses.

  • Entry to the Festival of Roses is not included

Woolmers Estate is located at 658 Woolmers Lane, Longford — approximately 20 minutes south of Launceston. Free on-site parking is available.
