Grounds Maintenance Worker

Woolmers is seeking a Grounds Maintenance worker who will be able to provide high quality services for the property.

The Grounds Maintenance worker will be responsible for performing ongoing grounds and garden tasks, including routine maintenance on Woolmers Estate. The property has a range of modern and heritage areas, all of which require regular maintenance and support to ensure smooth running.

  • The Grounds Maintenance worker will perform a variety of tasks using the appropriate equipment and tools to maintain the facilities, grounds and the maintenance of the assets.

    • Available for immediate start

    • 1-2 days per week initially on a casual basis with potential to expand

    • Applicant must have own transport to and from Woolmers Estate

    • Dress suitably for the role and weather conditions

    • Possess a strong work ethic and have excellent communication skills

    • Ability to produce consistent and reliable quality

    • Possess a positive ‘can do’ attitude

    • Demonstrated suitable experience and willingness to develop skills

    • Must be physically fit due to the labour tasks expected of this position

front of House - Reception

The position will be for the 2024-25 tourist period but with a view to more permanent employment for the right applicant.

Woolmers Estate is investing in the community and currently has an exciting opportunity available for Front of House / Reception Staff to join the team.

  • Woolmers Estate’s stunning contemporary Nigel Peck Centre is positioned to overlook the National Rose Garden and out across the heritage precinct. Our staff are highly valued members of our team and would be required to be friendly, professional and well-presented.

    The role involves all aspects of front office reception, including delivering effortless guest experiences, providing friendly, personalised customer service in responding to tour and accommodation enquiries, promoting the business to achieve sales, processing reservations and ensuring full and accurate data capture, assisting corporate and leisure guests (eg check-in, explaining facilities and location, check out), and ensuring the smooth running of the reception desk among other duties.

  • Will demonstrate a passion for customer service and ensuring a positive experience for all guests, strong skills in promoting and selling accommodation services and facilities, excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills, experience with front office booking systems is preferred, a keen eye for detail, high standards of personal presentation, and a highly team orientated ethos.

    The ideal candidate may also be required to provide administrative support to the management team and be responsible for assisting in a wide variety of front office tasks.

    Demonstrated experience would be advantageous however full training will be provided to the right person.

    The successful applicant/s must be available to work weekends and public holidays.

Housekeeping

Woolmers Estate is investing in the community and currently has an exciting opportunity available for Housekeeping/Cleaning staff to join the team.

  • Woolmers Estate’s housekeeping and cleaning staff are highly valued members of our team, and key to ensuring positive experiences for our guests, visitors and the overall success of the business.

    In particular, the role involves providing housekeeping and room attendant services for cottages (1 bedroom, 2 bedroom and 3 bedroom heritage cottages) cleaning common areas and the various areas including within in the modern visitor centre, to ensure high standards of presentation of the property in line with the our high standards, and efficient operations based on demands and guest needs.

  • Will demonstrate a can-do, responsible, and flexible approach to work, excellent communication skills, a friendly customer service demeanour, a keen eye for detail, excellent organisational skills, discretion in guest interaction, and a strong appreciation for workplace safety.  An ability to follow instructions and work quickly and efficiently to achieve individual and team goals is key.

    Prior experience in a cleaning or housekeeping role ideally in a hotel or business environment is preferred, and qualifications and prior experience in the hospitality, travel or tourism industries would be highly regarded but are not essential as on-the-job training will be provided to the successful applicant/s.

    The successful applicant/s must be available to work weekends and public holidays and hold a current C Class drivers license.

Tour Guide

Woolmers Estate currently has an exciting opportunity available for interested people to join the team of volunteer Tour Guides for the coming 2024-25 tourist season.

  • Do you have a passion for history and historical objects? Do you have a passion for historical Tasmanian architecture? Do you enjoy sharing information with people from all walks of life? Are you a natural communicator? Then this role might be for you!

  • As a Woolmers Estate Tour Guide you will learn the fascinating and long history of the Woolmers Archer family and the Assigned Convicts that worked on the property. You will guide interested visitors on a structured tour that encompasses the outbuildings and/or house museum and its vast and fascinating collection of family artefacts.

    To be a successful Woolmers Estate Tour Guide you will need the following attributes:

    • Good communication skills

    • Must speak English well

    • Be well presented

    • Be personable

    • Be enthusiastic

    • Be punctual

    • Be able to learn a written script and remain true to that script

    • Be able to work independently and as part of a team

    • Be willing to undertake further training as required and undergo occasional assessment

    • Must have a reasonable level of fitness and mobility

    • Commit to a roster – very important

    NOTE: You do not need any prior skills, you will be trained and mentored by the friendly and knowledgeable members of the Woolmers Guide team until you are ready and confident to step into the role.
