2026 Tasmanian Tourism Awards · Tourist Attractions, Cultural Tourism and Unique Accommodation
Woolmers Estate, Longford, Northern Tasmania
Woolmers Estate, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Longford, 20 minutes from Launceston, has been named a finalist in three categories at the 2026 Tasmanian Tourism Awards: Tourist Attractions, Cultural Tourism and Unique Accommodation.
Winners will be announced at the Tasmanian Tourism Awards Gala on 6 November 2026, and whatever the outcome, we are very grateful.
The Tasmanian Tourism Awards are coordinated each year by the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania (TICT) and recognise innovation, excellence, quality and sustainability across the state’s tourism industry. Winners in each category go on to represent Tasmania at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.
Woolmers Estate spans 13 hectares and 18 original buildings, from the grand Woolmers House, with its hosted homestead experience, to the Wool Shed and the expansive Rose Garden, home to over 3,000 roses. Visitors explore at a self-paced rhythm, or join The Woolmers Experience, a 90-minute guided buggy tour across the full estate.
The combined admission ticket covers Brickendon Estate and Woolmers Estate, linked by the 2.8km Convict Farm Walk and the suspension bridge over the Macquarie River. We recommend allowing a full day at each estate, so there is plenty here for anyone looking for things to do near Launceston with Tasmania’s history at their heart.
Brickendon and Woolmers Estates are jointly one of the 11 Australian Convict Sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Together they tell the story of the convict Assignment System, through which convict men and women were sent to private properties like Woolmers, where they gained skills, earned freedom and often chose to stay.
Unshackled: The Assignment Story Exhibition brings that story to life at Woolmers Estate. You can read more about it in Assignment: A Different Sentence.
Six heritage cottages sit within Woolmers Estate, and every stay includes general admission, Devonshire tea on arrival, a continental breakfast and after-hours access to the estate.
Our heritage accommodation has also been named on the Star Ratings Australia 2026 Gold List. Voted by Travellers. You can read more in our Gold List post, or explore our heritage accommodation.
Thank you to our team and volunteers, whose care shapes every visit and every stay. Thank you to our visitors and guests, to our partners at Brickendon Estate, and to TICT and the judges for their time.
As a not-for-profit, Woolmers Foundation relies on every visit to support the conservation of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, so being recognised alongside so many Tasmanian operators means a great deal to all of us.
Whatever the outcome, it is an honour to be named alongside so many Tasmanian operators who care deeply about the experiences they offer.
Woolmers Estate is at 658 Woolmers Lane, Longford, 20 minutes from Launceston and 15 minutes from Launceston Airport. It is open daily from 8am, with last entry at 4pm, and closes at 6pm.
