Star Ratings Australia · Voted by Travellers

Woolmers Estate, Longford, Northern Tasmania

Woolmers Estate’s heritage accommodation in Longford, 20 minutes from Launceston, has been named on the Star Ratings Australia 2026 Gold List of Australian Accommodation. Voted by Travellers.

The news arrived in the same week we learnt our heritage accommodation is a finalist for Unique Accommodation at the 2026 Tasmanian Tourism Awards, and we are feeling very grateful.

Star Ratings Australia

What Is the Star Ratings Gold List?

The Star Ratings Gold List is an annual list of Australian accommodation published by Star Ratings Australia. Only properties that hold Star Ratings’ independent quality standards are eligible. Those standards are assessed against more than 200 criteria, ranked by Australian travellers according to what matters to them, and cover the cleanliness, quality and condition of guest facilities.

From there, it is guests who decide. Star Ratings works with ReviewPro, which gathers guest ratings and reviews from more than 100 websites, including Booking.com, Wotif, Expedia and Google, and combines them into a Travellers’ Rating out of 10. The Gold List showcases the properties with the strongest ratings.

What It Means for Our Guests

For anyone deciding where to stay, the Gold List brings two things together: an independent check of the accommodation itself, and the shared experience of the people who have already stayed. It is past guests telling future guests what they found.

With Thanks

Thank You to Our Guests

The Gold List is based on guest reviews, so thank you to everyone who has spent a night here and taken the time to share their experience. Your feedback means a great deal to our team, and we read every review.

Thank you also to our housekeeping and front-of-house team and our volunteers, whose care goes into every stay and every visit.

Thank you to everyone who has spent a night here and taken the time to share their experience.

Tasmanian Tourism Awards

Finalist for Unique Accommodation

Our heritage accommodation is also a finalist in the Unique Accommodation category at the 2026 Tasmanian Tourism Awards, with winners announced at the Awards Gala on 6 November 2026. It means a great deal to see the cottages recognised for both the guest experience and the stay itself.

Woolmers Estate is a finalist in two further categories, Tourist Attractions and Cultural Tourism, and you can read more in our Tasmanian Tourism Awards finalist post. Whatever the outcome, it is an honour to be named alongside so many Tasmanian operators who care deeply about the experiences they offer.

Heritage Accommodation

Wake Up in World Heritage

Our heritage accommodation offers a unique place to stay in Tasmania, with six cottages within Woolmers Estate, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Longford, Northern Tasmania. Brickendon and Woolmers Estates are jointly one of the 11 Australian Convict Sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List, telling the story of the convict Assignment System.

Five cottages have one bedroom and one has three, accommodating up to 16 guests. Every stay includes general admission, Devonshire tea on arrival, a continental breakfast and after-hours access to the estate. Devonshire tea and breakfast were introduced this year.

Each guest who stays with us becomes part of the estate’s story, even if only for a night or two. Whether it is a Devonshire tea on arrival, a quiet wander through the estate after the gates close or breakfast before the day begins, we hope every stay feels special, and we will keep working to make each visit one to remember.

Location

Where to Stay near Launceston

Woolmers Estate is at 658 Woolmers Lane, Longford, 20 minutes from the Launceston CBD and 15 minutes from Launceston Airport. It sits less than five minutes off the Heritage Highway.

We recommend allowing a full day at Woolmers Estate and a full day at Brickendon Estate, so an overnight stay gives you time to explore both at a self-paced rhythm. The 2.8km Convict Farm Walk links the two estates, crossing the suspension bridge over the Macquarie River. From October, the expansive Rose Garden comes into bloom with over 3,000 roses and approximately 350 varieties.
